Clane General Hospital was founded in 1985. Infertility and its associated treatments have been a part of the services provided by this hospital since its conception.
Originally, the programme in relation to fertility issues was started as a joint venture between Clane Hospital and Bourn Hall Clinic in Cambridge so that patients who have had difficulty conceiving a pregnancy can benefit from the professional expertise and experience of one of the worlds most renowned clinics in this field. IVF/ ICSI are some of the most popular treatments provided at the clinic.

- Investigation of the causes of infertility as required (couples who have previously been adequately investigated elsewhere will have no more tests than are considered to be necessary).
- Further Assessment
- Ovulation induction and cycle monitoring.
- Artificial Intrauterine insemination with husband's sperm IUI (H) or with donor sperm IUI (D) as required.
- In vitro fertilization (I.V.F.) husband & donor sperm.
- Freezing of supernumerary embryos.
- Frozen embryo replacement (FER).
- Freezing and storage of sperm (for partner use).
- Treatment of Male factor infertility.
Surgical sperm retrieval by Percutaneous Epididymal Sperm Aspiration (PESA) and Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA). - Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection(ICSI).

- Treatment such as egg /embryo donation, egg share IVF treatment are available at Bourn Hall in Cambridge. Patients requiring treatment by donor egg or donor embryo may have cycle monitoring, blood tests etc., carried out in Clane General Hospital . This minimizes the amount time spent traveling
